my favorite part about Deacon is definitely the the classes and the teachers here and opportunities allow you to be a dancer of the dance company delivery mechanics out to mollywhop a lot of people think of Deacon as a selective high school with a new building and a lot of accolades strong sports teams top college acceptances strong Act high performance there's more to us than our resume though Beacon is a diverse place with diverse students and staff and all kinds of ideas and opinions that are celebrated an elevated it's a place where people collaborate with laugh and challenge each other Beacon has only been in this building since 2015 we have tons of space 10 studios in the basement for all our bands a sunny cafeteria and Library the gym is beautiful and the auditorium is college-level but there's nothing as impressive as our Academic Program student Choice student voice in product Facebook we only administer the English Regents exam no other regions of course work through challenging inquiry-based projects a written or product depending on the class and some the presentation so one of the things that's really great about Beacon is that Lee is teachers have a lot of freedom to design art courses since the classes often require a lot of close reading and formal writing I think we made me actually apply Deepika the ranges of academic that they offered such as a few bio and advanced immunology and those are two classes that I've actually taken sports teams we have a killer model un team we have a robust theater program that puts on high-quality performances each year and outstanding Dance Program social justice groups feminist organizations yearbook and newspaper in photography we have over 16 student bands sending many different genres of nothing in stock when you're Margaret these two I'm seeing and now as I am one of the president's medal. It's just so far have to see how this thing that was in there like you'll find your place in time and together we made a band as we spend hours in our freshman and sophomore year of recording in in a pecan after you know making music playing together and it was just it's so fun we try to teach our students everything they need to fulfill their aspirations are liberal arts curriculum features a wide range of engage elective courses in all academic subjects technology and the Arts play a central role in our curriculum we have AP courses in mathematics science and language as well as honors courses in the Arts it pays off for them in the diversity of the choices they can make an impressive college acceptances that we celebrate Every Spring your performance-based assessment and the emphasis on skills over content means classroom is longer projects deeper dives into what we're studying it's driven by inquiry and stood investigation and the end result I think is better teaching and Better Learning give me to begin wanting to be a doctor like going to med school and stuff after high school and I think that Beacon is really send me upgrade for a college career with a lot of the college guidance counselor students are known for facing obstacles and pushing everyone around them to be better we're facing a huge challenge right now with the covid-19 pandemic in our community has risen to the occasion we remain strong we remain committed we remain focused on social justice and Equity issues and together we'll work through this pandemic and come out the other side stronger and better off and hopefully by then you'll be able to come see all the amazing things that beacon in person
