JUNIOR FINANCIAL AID NIGHT

JUNIORS - Tuesday, June 12th there will be a FINANCIAL AID NIGHT – from 6-7:30pm in the Cafeteria at Beacon. Our speaker – Heather McDonnell is the Director of Financial Aid at Sarah Lawrence College (one of the most expensive schools in the country). It is VITAL that a parent/guardian attend this meeting, or that you attend the meeting and share the information with your family. We will have a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) meeting in the fall, but that will cover different information. This specific meeting will not be repeated in the fall.

Understanding Your Financial Aid Packages

OPTIONS Financial Aid Workshop

Understanding Financial Aid Packages – A financial aid package is the financial aid offer a college makes to you. After you are accepted, you will receive a financial aid award letter that outlines the financial resources the college is offering to you. These letters are often confusing. This workshop will help you: (i) decide which financial aid offer is the best for you; (ii) calculate how much you will need to pay at each college; (iii) find scholarships and learn where to apply for college loans; and (iv) negotiate a better offer. Choose a date: Wednesday, April 14, 6:00pm-8:00pm (light supper will be served) OR Saturday, April 17, 11:00am-1:00pm (light breakfast will be served). You must make a reservation: (212) 873-6600, x223. Workshop location is OPTIONS, Goddard Riverside Community Center, 593 Columbus Avenue (between 88th and 89th).

Financial Aid - GET PREPARED

It is time to start focusing on Financial aid. I have put together a tip sheet on how to approach the process. Please read through it carefully and file paperwork in a timely fashion. THE FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) cannot be filed until January 1, but should be filed as soon in the new year as possible. There may be other forms that colleges want you to fill out, see my worksheet Download here for more details. While I strongly suggest filing the appropriate forms online, paper copies can be picked up in the college office.
