SOPHOMORES SHOULD NOT BE TAKING THE SAT

Attention Sophomores and Sophomore parents: Tenth graders should NOT be registering to take the SAT exam at this time. The first time I recommend taking this test is in the spring of JUNIOR year. I am aware that the SAT exam is changing and there are a few students who are trying to take the old exam because they fear they will not do as well on the new exam - BUT- this is not a wise strategy as most colleges are going to require that students take the New SAT test and will not look at old scores. In addition, it is a great disservice to the student to take this test so early as they will only have two years of high school instruction and are not prepared to take an exam of this nature. I will be holding an information session about the changes in the SAT in late may and will let you know when as soon as this date is secured.

Understanding Your Financial Aid Packages

OPTIONS Financial Aid Workshop

Understanding Financial Aid Packages – A financial aid package is the financial aid offer a college makes to you. After you are accepted, you will receive a financial aid award letter that outlines the financial resources the college is offering to you. These letters are often confusing. This workshop will help you: (i) decide which financial aid offer is the best for you; (ii) calculate how much you will need to pay at each college; (iii) find scholarships and learn where to apply for college loans; and (iv) negotiate a better offer. Choose a date: Wednesday, April 14, 6:00pm-8:00pm (light supper will be served) OR Saturday, April 17, 11:00am-1:00pm (light breakfast will be served). You must make a reservation: (212) 873-6600, x223. Workshop location is OPTIONS, Goddard Riverside Community Center, 593 Columbus Avenue (between 88th and 89th).
