While I was in Mr. Hunt class and he asked me if I have seen School House Rocks when I was a little kid and if I remember them, which was an old cartoon that use to come one TV that use to teach you things. Of course it’s not on anymore. But we were talking about how they got you to learn and we found the answer.
The answer was that it was the songs. Music makes it easier to remember things. Don't you find it easier to remember things when they have a song for it? That's the reason why a lot of people know the theme songs to their favorite show. I bet you some of you know the words to Duck tales, or Chip n' Dales. It’s the tunes. Think about it, the Brady Bunch. All of you should know the words to that song or most of them.
And have you notice that when people starts to sing a song that you don’t fully remember but when someone starts singing it all comes back to you. That’s what I am talking about. You don’t forget, it’s like riding a bike, you don’t forget. You just put it somewhere else in your head. You better be careful, some corporation might make a song and you wouldn’t be able to get it out.
I work for the media. I work for HarlemLIVE.org, which is an online publication, made and produce by the kids oh NYC (well now we are trying to go international) and it think that the media is a powerful weapon. That is one of the reasons why I work there. If you want to get your word out there is only a couple of ways of doing. This I feel is the fastest way of doing. There is a quote that I that I found online a while ago. "Whoever captures the kids owns the future" and I to my dislike the media controls the kids of this nation. The only way to fight the system and reverse the damage that the media has done is send out media that has your point of view. You have to fight the power by their rules, which have been proven in the past to work. I am not saying that the media is all bad, there are some good things. People must know what is going on around the world and all that, but when you have false messages going into people heads then there is something wrong.
Here is what I think. Me, personally I try to give up TV but it is hard if you are the video mentor of an Online Publication. TV today is so so different from what it use to be. I know that times are changing and all but the shows that we have today are not as funny as the older ones. As I said, this could just be me. Reality TV is so far from the truth. I believe that people do stuff because a camera is in there face. Half of the stuff that they do I doubt they would do in real life. Part of my job (ok for the people that know me it is all volunteer) I have to watch TV. My boss said that I should watch Mr. Trump's The Apprentice, which I have to say that it is a good show. I think that more people should watch it. Even though that I still stand by my point that some of the stuff they would not do in real life but you could still learn stuff from it. It is the closes that most people get to see real life business meetings.
In a way they give us a false reality too. That is why you have the kids that jump of building and other stuff like that. Kids see things in the movies and cant tell what is real and what is not. Of course the TV world is much better then the real world. People don't die in TV land. And if they do, you could always bring them back. Which is great, but it's not real. I know as a kid that I wish I could fly like superman and do other things that I see but my mom would tell me all the time that is not real. That people can't fly or have super powers. So as you can see, it's not all the medias fault. If the people around you don't tell you that things can't happen at a early age, then things happen. That is why I like the quote "Whoever captures the kids owns the future". That is what the media is doing. It is making you want things when you are young. Things that you see the characters doing on TV and they don't get in trouble for you will start thinking its ok. Its so easy for the media to get you since you don't have to do much thinking when you are watching TV or listening to music.
