Updates

We're now into the first week of the summer vacation and although school hasn't really wound down for me yet, I'm still recovering from recent Beacon events. It has been a busy time, not least because my fabulous advisory students have been celebrating the end of their 4 years at Beacon.

Celebrations kicked off with their prom, held down at the seaport. Without a shadow of a doubt, I had the best looking and best dressed advisory group. I was so proud to see them dressed up, dancing away, and generally on their best behavour. Proof of this can be seen HERE

A few days later, Kevin Ballie and I, in a moment of craziness, decided we would enter Beacon in the NYC Pride march. Despite the early downpours, we were joined by several Beacon students, teachers, alumni, and friends, who came to walk behind the Beacon banner. I cannot think of a more proud moment in my Beacon career. Dillulo and I picked up our car early and decorated it in our best rainbow colors. To participate in this event, to organise something whereby our Beacon community could celebrate its diversity and tolerance, what can I say? I was very, very proud of our community. And favorite moment has to be Beacon alumni, including Jessie Oram, Denise Frohman etc, joining us on 7th avenue for the final few blocks. Such a great day.

And then graduation. I am happy to say that all the advisees who I'd expected to graduate did, in fact, do just that. Words cannot describe how proud I was on every one of them, and how much I took the time during that ceremony to reflect on all the things we'd been threw together, and how happy I've been to be a part of their lives for the past 4 years.
