In the mid 1960's the upper level of Penn Station was torn down, in its replacment: Madison Square Garden. However, trains still go beneath the surface. The reason why MSG was placed here was because it was located near many subway stations allowing people from both in the city out out of the city to travel there. New Jersey Transit and the Long Island Rail Roads both are located at Penn Station making it easy for out of towners to visit. Madison Square Garden has the most subway / train stations located closeby than any other arena or ball park in the world.
