(for the upcoming fall season) Remember that to officially be on the team, you need to have a Parent permission form, and a sports medical form completed (it has to be less than one year old). Also come get a season info sheet. You can get the forms from Mr. Shum in room 317, or from these links:

Spring Track Picks up Where They Left off
April 5, 2008

The spring track team is having a strong start to the season despite the harsh and inclement weather at our outdoor practices and meets. One of the anticipated highlights of this season will be the Varsity boys 4x100 relay, which broke the school record twice last year. The relay is showing signs of life again this year as they broke the record again this past weekend at the Kings Relay Carnival. The relay included Stevenson Jean-Charles, Henry Liebman, Kadeem Thompson, and Will Davis.

Track Team Excels at Championships

Congratulations to the Beacon Track Team for another great performance at the 2008 Manhattan Championships. The girls were led by medal winners Kate Carlucci, Chelsea Davies, Corby Ferlesch, and Victoria Sperazza. Boys' highlights included record times set by Will Davis and Spencer Hadel. Great job everyone!
Indoor Track Sets New Records
January 21, 2008

Congratulations to the track team for another strong showing at the annual MLK Relays this past Monday. New school records were set in the sprint medley event in both the boys and the girls divisions. The boys squad included Alex Schrum, Kadeem Thompson, Will Davis, and Spencer Hadel. The girls relay, which consisted of Nzingha Crusoe, Kate Carlucci, Corby Ferlesch, and Chelsea Davies, also finished tenth out of 54 varsity teams from the PSAL. Crusoe and Davies also set additional records in individual events at the annual NYC Mayor's Cup this past Saturday.

Winter Track off to a Hot Start

The Beacon indoor track team sprang into action this past Saturday with much success. The team was led by Chelsea Davies, who took the gold in the varsity 600m run. Bronze medal winners included junior Nzingha Crusoe and Freshman Victoria Sperazza, also in the 600m run.
Cross Country Excels in Season Finale

Congratulations to the Beacon boys and girls cross country teams for a great performance at this past Saturday's PSAL Championship, which featured over 500 of the best runners from all over New York City. The girls were led by medalists Chelsea Davies, Sara Wenger, and Marina Rada. Medalists in the boy's race included Spencer Hadel and Patrick Moulton. All runners capped off a nice season by running some of the fastest times of their high school careers. Nice job Beacon!
School Record Falls at Mayor's Cup

Congratulations to the Beacon cross country teams for another great meet this past Saturday. The boys and girls all ran their fastest times of the season against hundreds of the best athletes from the top public, private, and Catholic schools in New York City. The boys were led by senior captain Patrick Moulton, whose performance resulted in a new school record and a top finisher's medal. The girls were led by captain Marina Rada.

Cross Country off to a Strong Start

Cross Country season is in full swing and the Beacon boys and girls teams are off to a nice start. Led by our experienced upperclassmen, our runners have accumulated 14 medals over the first two weeks of competition. Beacon will be in championship contention come October despite having a small team. The boys and girls are in action every Tuesday and Wednesday at van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx. Come check us out!

School Records Broken Again

The Beacon Track Team is wrapping up the season on a high note by setting more new records. Sasha Dunbar (800 meters) and Nzingha Crusoe (400 m hurdles) both ran record times at the PSAL Sophomore City Championships this past Saturday. With her time Crusoe also qualifies for the varsity championships this coming Sunday. Way to go, girls!

Beacon Track Heating Up
May 12, 2007

Congratulations to the Beacon Track Team for another strong showing past this Saturday at the Bruce Selman Memorial Meet. The girls were led by Nzingha Crusoe, who took third place in the varsity 400m hurdles. Boys highlights included the 4x100m relay of Kadeem Thompson, Justin Rigney, Stevenson Jean-Charles, and Will Davis, who further lowered the record time for our school. It was a great performance as the team gears up for this Sunday's Manhattan Championships.
Beacon Track Shines Again

Congratulations to the Beacon Indoor Track Team for a great performance at the PSAL Manhattan Championships. The girls team was led by gold medal winner Chelsea Davies in the 600 meter run, and by record breakers Sasha Dunbar in the 1500 meter run and Marne Bruckner in the long jump. Boys medal winners included Guido Girgenti in the long jump. The team finished 7th out of 17 teams. Davies and Dunbar will be in action again this Friday at the PSAL Citywide Championships.
Record Falls Again for Girls Track

Congratulations to the girls track team for setting their second consecutive school record at Saturday's New Balance Games, which featured over 100 teams from all over the tri-state area. The sophomore team of Chelsea Davies, Sasha Dunbar, Marne Bruckner, and Nzingha Crusoe took the bronze medal in the 4x400 meter relay and, in so doing, qualified for the PSAL City Championship next month as well.

Beacon Track Sets New Record
January 16, 2007

Congratulations to the girls track team for setting a new school record in the distance medley at Monday's Martin Luther King Jr. Relays. The team of Chelsea Davies, Christina Angione, Nzingha Crusoe, and Sasha Dunbar were able to secure a hard-fought third place finish against 23 elite varsity distance squads of the PSAL. Great job!

Winter Track Kicks Off with Gusto

Congratulations to the Beacon track team as they opened the new season with much success. The first meet was highlighted by medal-winning efforts by Henry Liebman and Alex Brass, and a record breaking performance by Chelsea Davies. Beacon track is in action again this Friday at The Armory.
Cross Country Girls Headed for State Meet

Congratulations to the Beacon girls cross country team for a strong showing at the PSAL Varsity City Championships. The girls finished 8th overall in the city, the highest ever in school history. The team was lead by sophomores Chelsea Davies and Sasha Dunbar, both of whom also qualified for the NY Federation Cross Country Championship. This race will be held November 18 and it will feature 250 of the best runners from public, catholic, and prep schools from all over New York State.
Beacon Underclassmen Excel for Cross Country

Congratulations to the cross country teams for another impressive display at   
this week's Manhattan Freshman/Sophomore Championships. The girls and boys teams finished first and second in their respective races, highlighted by a  gold medal performance by school record holder Sasha Dunbar. Silver medalists included Christina Angione, Chelsea Davies, and Henry Liebman. The teams look to continue their success at the Varsity level on October 28.
Beacon Shines as Records Fall

Congratulations to the team for another strong showing at the Mayor's Cup Championships this past Saturday. The meet featured the best squads from public, private, and catholic schools in New York City. In the varsity team race, the girls finished 5th best out of 43 schools, and the varsity boys were 25th out of 57. The highlight of the meet was the setting of new Beacon cross country records by Sasha Dunbar and Patrick Moulton.

Congratulations to the Beacon boys and girls cross country teams for taking    
first place in all four races at this week's Manhattan Grand Prix. The         
varsity golds were secured by Patrick Moulton and Sasha Dunbar, while          
freshmen Henry Liebman and Christina Angione also took the top spots in        
their respective races. The teams will use the momentum from this              
unprecedented accomplishment as they begin their push for the championships next week. 
Continued Success for Beacon Cross Country

Congratulations to the Beacon Cross Country teams for their recent accomplishments at the Manhattan Grand Prix meets. Over the last two weeks the boys and girls teams together have accumulated 22 medals, including one gold by Henry Liebman and three silvers by Christina Angione and Chelsea Davies. These runners are among the fastest in the city and will be in serious contention for the championships coming up in October.
Cross Country Starts Strong

The 2006 Beacon Cross Country season is off to a solid start with a nice showing at the city-wide PSAL Group Run over the weekend. The girls were lead by medal winner Chelsea Davies in the varsity race, and Christina Angione, who took first place in the freshman race. The boys were lead by Patrick Moulton in the varsity race, and Henry Liebman, who holds a new freshman class record. Way to go Beacon!
Beacon Track Strong Again

Congratulations to the Beacon Track team for a solid performance at yesterday's PSAL Manhattan Championships. The team was led by Freshman Nzingha Crusoe who took the silver in the Varsity 400 meter hurdles race while setting a new school record in the process. Other Varsity medal winners included Najua Ward and Marina Rada. These runners are among the fastest in the city.

New Season, New Records

Congratulations to the Boys Track Team for setting a new school record in the Sprint Medley this past Saturday at the Kings Relays. The record was broken despite inclement weather and adverse running conditions. The relay included Isaac Lliguin, Desi Hernandez, Najua Ward, and Rolando Rodriguez. Congratulations also to Carllee James for setting the school mark for the Girls Long Jump later during the week.

Underclassman Win "Four on a Couch"
March 11, 2006

Congratulations to the freshmen and sophomores for winning the classic memory game, "Four on a Couch," this part Saturday night at the Winter Track Dinner. Both teams battled valiently, racking their brains for names, but the defining moment occurred when Naomi was finally called off the couch with a name not used all night. Reports say that the move was illegally aided by hand motions from a member of the winning team, although it has not yet been confirmed. A brief scuffle ensued afterwards and fighting words were exchanged as the upperclassmen were outraged, but fortunately no casualties were sustained.
Track Records Fall Again

Congratulations to the Beacon track team for setting new school records once again. The old marks were broken by Nzingha Crusoe in the 600m run, and by Chelsea Davies, Sasha Dunbar, Marina Rada, and Nzingha Crusoe in the 4x800m relay this past Sunday at the PSAL Freshman & Sophomore City Championships. Great efforts were put forth by all members as the whole team placed 11th out of over 60 schools. Way to go Beacon!
Beacon Wins City Championship Medal

Congratulations to Nzingha Crusoe in her 6th place finish in the 300m at the City Finals this past Saturday. She is the fastest freshman girl in school history and among the elite sprinters of New York City.
Track Team Bound for City Championships
February 21, 2006

Congratulations to the Beacon Track team in qualifying for the PSAL Indoor Track Championships. Representing Beacon at this prestigious race on Saturday will be Rolando Rodriguez, Freddy Ciriaco, Kyle Wright, and Najua Ward in the 4x200m relay, and Nzingha Crusoe in the 300m and 600m run. These five students are the new school record holders in their respective events, and together with medal-winners Chelsea Davies and Sasha Dunbar, propelled Beacon to a 7th place overall finish out of 17 schools on Monday's Manhattan Finals.

Yoga Session A Big Hit!

A full introductory Yoga session given at school yesterday was received with excitement and enthusiasm as the track team learned a wide array of exercises in relaxtion, focus, and stretching. Special thanks to Linette Dunbar for making it all possible!
Coach Pleased with Runners' Report Cards

Coach Shum was very pleased on Wednesday after seeing countless numbers of "A" and "B" grades on his runners' first semester report cards. The team has long held a tradition of diligence, which extends from the classroom onto the track. It is also reported that Shum especially likes nerdy track runners because he too was a nerdy track runner back in high school (about 3 years ago...)
Beacon Track Breaks Mayor's Cup Record

Congratulations to the Beacon Track Team for winning the Freshman Girls Sprint Medley Relay at the Mayor's Cup Championship this past Saturday. This latest victory was their third in as many weeks. The relay consisting of Nzingha Crusoe, Chelsea Davies, Marne Bruckner, and Sasha Dunbar, lead from start to finish in route to a record breaking performance. Beacon handily defeated 12 other squads including teams from top Catholic and Prep schools. Way to go team! 
Beacon Freshmen Take the Gold!

Congratulations to the Freshman Girls Track team and their continued dominance. Their latest victory was again in decisive fashion as they convincingly won the gold medal in the 4x800m relay at the Martin Luther King Jr. Relays. The record-breaking squad included Sasha Dunbar, Chelsea Davies, Marina Rada, and Nzingha Crusoe. These girls are hands-down among the fastest freshmen in the city.
